Gary’s Raleigh Lenton Grand Prix

Earlier this year, Gary built a beautiful new bike from a Raleigh Lenton Grand Prix frame (probably 1957). As well as adding some awesome functional features, like a generator hub, he included some of his own artist’s flare. Apparently, John Lennon was given a Lenton in 1952; Gary rides his to work with pleasure. Here’s an interesting article about the history of the Raleigh Lenton.

These Lenton frames were originally dipped in enamel and then painted. The black enamel is exposed as the paint wears away with age.

The old horn attached to the wine box is plumbed in from the handle bar. It give out a mighty honk. Wire scroll work gives the box strength and flair. The beautiful old light casing hides a modern light mechanism.
